Default Volvo V70 engine revs/noise/ bad fuel economy

Hi I have a Volvo V70 2.4D SE geartronic (58 plate) with the following issues/problems and wondered if anybody had any ideas?

Car Revs - Travelling at fast speeds (70mph) car runs at 2000 always has and this is still the case so is running normal. *At idle it sits at 700. The car however seems to be struggling between 1000 and 1500 with more engine noise apparent. When the gear changes it normally sits just between 1000 and 1500 nearer to 1500 however when the car feels as though it wants to do the gear change the needle will drop down cannot find a setting and bounce straight back up to 1500 and stay there. Also when slowing down to stop*the needle will keep bouncing*up and down quickly until it settles at 700. The needle rarely now gradually drops down from 1500 to 800 when stopping.*

Cold morning starts, car travelling at 2000 revs. Engine straining sound as car wants to change gear but doesn’t.

Bad fuel economy:
Travelling to work and back in one week the car uses 1/4 of a tank. 2 weeks 1/2 tank however over two weeks the car used 3/4 tank so lost 1/4 of a tank. Tank size 70 litres.

Vibration can be felt in steering wheel and sometimes in the seat
Engine noise
Slight Engine knocking sound (more noticeable on cold start ups)
Noise on start up
Smell of fuel (on cold start up at times)
Car feels as though it is being pushed back at times*can feel something free then engine flys.
Engine noise when travelling up hills

Issues with car more apparent when engine is cold, low speeds around town. On motorway at high speeds car runs ok with slight engine.

New parts fitted recently:
Radiator
Power steering pump
Steering rack
Throttle body
Battery
Injector 4
Injector 5
Fuel Filter
Air filter
Timing belts

Apologies if this isn't the first winter since you go the car and you are already aware, but for the most part (am afraid I can't comment on the issue with the revs) mine (a 2008 D5) is very much the same and is, I believe, par for the course (though I'm happy to be corrected, as I haven't owned or driven another). The fuel economy is significantly worse. The box hangs on to the gears in the winter from a cold start, to protect the components until warm. As for the noise and vibration at lower speeds, I've never known a diesel quite so sensitive to the ambient temperature - it's distinctly agricultural until really warmed through in the winter. In the summer, however, and particularly when the temperature moves above 20, it burbles sweetly, soon after a cold start. In a heatwave, it's in heaven, soft as a V8! Of course, it could be that the engine mounts are past their best and this is exacerbating the effect.

best thing to do is give gearbox oil change and filter for a start.
