volvo wheels are centred on the HUB not the wheel mounting bolts.

Totally agree - not just Volvo wheels, almost all wheels (there is one exception but can't recall it just now) are centred on the hub and the nuts are there to stop the wheel falling off, not keep it central to the hub!

Hence the existence of spigot rings, to keep the "new" wheel central to the hub when using alternative wheels. Used a set on my old Rover 827 Coupe when i fitted early S/V40 4-stud alloys as the CB on the x40 wheels was 67mm and the Rover hub was only 64mm on the hub spigot.
