Default alarm goes off at 4am!

Last night at 4am (about noon in Sweden) the car alarm went off. There was noone near the car, no rain, really quiet. I had heard that when the battery runs low, that this is one way your car lets you know. Besides parking in the garage tonight (don't want to again wake the neighbors) and seeing if it happens again, any other ideas of why the car alarm would sound? I already checked that nothing was slightly open, nothing seems out of the ordinary. If no other ideas, will bring to dealer on Friday to check battery. Seems to start just fine...Open to any and all ideas. Thanks!

Hi,
Sometimes they can be set by certain 2 way radios that Taxi drivers use, do you have many cabs driving past your home? I would put it down to the Battery though

You say that .. but its never happened to me! I left a set of keys in the ash tray for a month and it didn't go off once!

I'd say its battery.

Well i have had my c70 for 7.5 years and spent the first year or so trying to figure that out.

Was only at a meeting from another forum back in 2006 someone pointed it out, never happened since

Cool this narrows it down!

No moths, no taxi's, and nothing in the trays at all-will check the battery out on friday. Thank you to all who helped!

coins etc in ash tray, can cause it, but is a bit random/freak, micro switches in front doors have a tendancy to play up (can be fixed with a couple of wraps of insulation tape around the tab that activates the microswitch in the lock assy

do you have occasion problems where you have to open and reclose doors to get interior light to go off, or at night footwell lights on?

not heard of battery problems affecting alarm on P1's (more of a P2 problem)- especially if car still starts fine.

The only trouble I've ever had with car alarms is when the battery was getting a bit old or the alternator was playing up.

I had the same issue. It's one of door locks. Search for faulty door lock...

Don't try to clean it it will come back fter a while. Safe your self time nd buy new one ( second hand from ebay around 20-30£)

Once micro switch inside door lock get dirty it might gives false signal about opened door to ecu and light inside car turns on! While doors are phisicly locked - alarm turns on. Light inside car turns on itself, you need to slam your door to turn it off.Another symptom of bad door lock is lack of blink when you close your car using fob.

Before you decide to replace one of doorlocks, disconnect small interior light under glovebox and turn off interior light using switch.
