Default Oil in coolant - not oil cooler - Help

Hi I though I would start a new thread on this. Having found oil in the coolant reservoir and changed the oil cooler made no difference. So I bypassed the oil cooler to be sure and still have the same. Can someone give me an opinion the only other thing I can think of is Head gasket ?????
Obviously pressurized oil is weeping into the coolant channel somewhere.

2007 xc90 d5

It just keeps coming....
The flow creates a constant film of oil that float on top of the coolant. There is water under there so it is no all filled with oil. SO with the oil cooler by passed unless there is any other oil/water passage must be the head gasket.
Any advice would be gratefully received

Have you carried out a compression test, and if so, what were the individual cylinder readings? Regardless of the actual value, all pressures should be within a few psi of one another. If one or two adjacent cylinders are significantly lower than the others, that would point strongly towards a failing H.G.

Regards, John.

Could be transmission oil if the radiator has failed (there is a transmission oil heat exchanger in the radiator).

Check carefully as water in the trans oil will badly damage the gearbox in a short space of time.

I agree, 'Tannaton', but I thought that we had discounted that possibility in an earlier thread / post.

Regards, John.

drain the transmission fluid to check if there is any water in it to find out if the rad and trans cooler have failed it is quite common.

When I had my Lexus LS430 this was a common issue on the forum with stories of destroyed transmissions. I replaced my radiator and recommended others do the same or fit a separate cooler. I didn't know that Volvo's suffered in the same way. Does this apply to all Volvo auto's?

Certainly all the P2 auto's.

I wouldn't say it's common though, I've read of maybe 4-5 cases on here in 10 years....

4 or 5 in ten years will stop me worrying! I will keep my eye on the area though.

Just to add. The Lexus issue was corrosion where the transmission oil pipes joined the radiator. The connection would rust causing it to open slightly and allow the two to mix. The actual cooler built into the radiator was fine (I took one apart)

Did you find out what the cause was in the end?
