440 auto gearbox
HI, I HAVE A 2.0L AUTOMATIC, 1996 440. ONCE EVERY 2 TO 3 WEEKS IT STICKS IN 2ND GEAR AND NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT WONT ENGAGE ANY OTHER GEARS, I HAVE TO TURN IT OF AND WAIT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR UNTILL IT COOLS DOWN AND THEN ITS FINE AGAIN FOR ANOTHER 2 TO 3 WEEKS. ANYONE GOT ANY IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENS, ITS JUST ANNOYING MORE THAN ANYTHING BECAUSE THE CAR IS GREAT.
THANKS. |

How about the ATF level and the colour of it? Should look clear red. If it's brownish and smells burned flush it with fresh atf (type G) and add a bottle of Lubegard. Great stuff, will make shifting go smoother, frees sticked valves and lenghtens the life of the autobox.
