Well I got another quote from a second independent: £755.

It seems the big disparity is amount of labour. 5 hours?

Also, is it necessary to replace the water pump?

No. And you wouldn't use red coolant in a VEA engine.

The correct time for this job is about 2 hours .

The water pump is too cheap so not volvo , It will ruin your engine sooner or later . Volvo water pumps never need changing anyway ... they don't come any better

The coolant is volvo price but not volvo coolant , it will need changing in 2 or 3 years , whilst volvo coolant lasts indefinitely

They want to charge you an hour for changing the aux belt and tensioner ? that has to be taken off anyway as part of the cambelt job !! so should be zero labour !

Avoid at all costs ! just go to a dealer get it all done properly with the right parts at less cost .

Well I just got the car back from having this work done, only to find this hanging down from underneath. Can someone please tell me what it is?

That is the fuel pipe housing protection , can you tie it up and get it back to them pronto , or get them to take the car back ! I guess you had the 36000 or 72000 mile service .

That would be an interesting argument if there ever happened to be another issue a la EGR cooler....... "sorry you never followed the volvo service schedule" - but you changed the service schedule after its service and I only found out about this change via an online forum..... just saying
are you aware theres a chap who fixes volvos in collin craig?
