The V40 is a more direct replacement for a Focus as they use the same chassis although Volvo have lengthened it slightly for the V40.
With a D4 engine it really flies. The five pot D5 is king though in the V60.

I wouldn't buy a BMW with fewer than 6 cylinders, I wouldn't buy a Volvo without a winter pack, it's part of the package. It's in their DNA. With regard to the V60, I'd steer clear of the D4 for now, stick with a five cylinder, it may cost more in road tax but they are a very robust engine.

A winter pack to me is the heated seats and extra thick floor mats.
You can keep your heated windscreen, that's a gimmick for me.

Now those I like especially the heated seats. Just a shame winter pack for all except the heads up display XC90 means a heated windscreen. Is it me or should the winter pack include rubber floor mats?

Heated Screen a gimmick and useless? Absolutely no way - very useful. It is what I have been missing in my cars for many years
(plus wife wont get in a car without heated seats - even had to put them into Landrover!)

I only say gimmick because my car is garaged.
Sub-zero temperature and cold engine requires a little boost via the heated seats, I've never had the windscreen freeze solid while driving those first few miles until the engine warms through.

I think the heated windscreen is a personal one, but based on the people with certain views and their previous posts it is more down to the fact that the thin wires in the heated windscreen can be distracting (I must admit I know what they are getting at).
Flip side the heated windscreen on a car left outside means that you rarely need a scrapper as it acts that quickly. |

Heated seats are a must for me, we even have them in the rear. I also sometimes find the electrical element in the heated windscreen causes the slightest diffraction of oncoming headlights. Personally, what I would love most would be an auxiliary heater, on a timer, so that the cabin and engine is pre-heated just before we get in in the morning. Our car sits on the drive as our garage is my personal world of DIY & other projects! Arianne
