Joe,

I've fixed mine twice - 1st time I used a 1/4W resistor which was fine - the second time I used a 1/2 W which has also been fine.

The resistor is not soldered to the spades - when you remove your CPS you'll see the connector is in a different place.
The white plastic cover splits giving you access to the area shown where you can solder the resistor in place and replace the cover easily without disturbing the connector pins.

Thanks chap.

I actually pulled a CPS from a scrap S60 D5 this afternoon, paid £10 for it with the plan to complete the resistor mod at my leisure. Imagine my delight when it tested at 212 ohms in the closed position.

Fitted a jacket to it as per the pictures in post 1, fitted it, cleared the code and hey presto! I have no warning message, a much smoother clutch operation and cruise control works

The one in the car tested at just over 600 ohms closed so well out, I'll likely perform a resistor modification and keep it as a spare.

Great topic, now saved in my bookmarks.

I would appreciate some experienced comments on this.....

My cruise switches on (the cruise word appears in the speedo) but has progressively failed to set. For a long time it would set but would then unset on driving along as if I had touched the brake or clutch, which I hadn't. However, I have never had an issue with the cruise word appearing in the speedo.

If I understand the comments if the clutch switch is worn it causes the cruise word to extinguish?

My clutch switch is dry but the car has done 126k....

How often do the steering wheel buttons fail, how common is it for the ETM to cause the fault?
