Default Starting after flat battery

Newbie to this site - hoping for advice.
Volvo V70 D5 2011
Battery went totally flat (lockdown!). Fully charged it and put back on vehicle.
Hazards flashed - interior lights, radio light etc all came on. Pressed starter button, heard various 'clicks', but engine did not turn over. Dash light no longer appears, but radio light, heater lights etc; still do. Key fob will not now eject either! Any ideas?

It doesn't sound like the battery has charged correctly. Is there another battery you can try to confirm?

Sadly no - May have to buy a new battery, although this one is only about 2 years old. Thanks for your reply.

Get it on a battery charger- you will also benefit longer term when batteries are left etc- trickle charge/conditioner will extend the life for future use.

I use two of the above on three classics- Red box Gunson type are good, you will find other advice regarding favorites within the form etc.
Bob.

I'm sorry to say that if it went totally flat and stayed that way for even just a few days then you'll have deep discharged it. The battery plates will have sulphated and there really is no way back from that. Sadly it's a case of fitting a new battery.

You're probably going to be better off posting in the forum for the later cars, this section is for x70 up to 1999, the later cars are much more complicated electronically.....

to fully charge that battery will take around 48 hours depending on the charger , Especially if it has been flat for more than a day or so .....

To follow up on my post above I was able to get to my garage yesterday. It's been 8 months since I've paid a visit. I didn't have my meter with me. Put the Bosch in the V70. It had been sitting on the concrete floor, not ideal. Pulled the cover back on the Amazon Estate and screwed in the knob on the battery isolator. Interior light came on. A good sign. Put the key in and switched on the ignition. We have lights! Pulled choke full out as usual and pressed the starter button. Battery cranked at its normal fully charged speed and churned away with no reduction of pace for 20-25 seconds and the engine burst into life. Popped the choke in a bit and settled it to a fast idle. This car and many other Amazons always need a good spell of cranking to get the petrol to the carbs after standing a while, even just a few weeks. This was 8 months! Checked the Bosch when I got home and it had 12.39 volts. That would have started the Amazon OK too I think. I don't know what the one on the Amazon was down too. The Bosch was bought 16 - 5 - 14 so that is now 8 years old. It's seen service in 4 cars including a spell in the Amazon until I got a new one for that. Charged it on the low setting on my charger which is about 2.5 amps depending on the state of charge and left it overnight. It had 18 hours and has been off charge for 6 hours and now reads 12.81v so that one is good too. 👍
