Hi XC70Virgin

No at all... I'll do one better for you and post the link to the exact item & seller I purchased these from: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-VOLVO...72.m2749.l2649

While I'm in no way affiliated to this seller I can highly recommend them & item as 100% legit, so much so that yesterday I also purchased the front equivalent of the MEYLE HD drop links for my XC60: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOR-VOLVO...72.m2749.l2649 ... as I'll be refreshing the front end suspension next

Another question: why did you replace the top plate as well? Was it precautionary or was the rubber worn away. Also, is it accessible by removing wheel arch liner?

Yes... precautionary/preventative maintenance, as per my usual £20 each is a small price to pay when fitting hundreds of £££ worth of new suspension components To be fair the rubber in the old top mounts wasn't split or heavily distorted but @ 149K miles & 11 years of our pothole ridden roads is enough reason for me to change as much as I reasonable can.
As for the rear wheel arch liner removal... there's no need as they have a cut out for the shock & access to top mount bolts. Pix below

No problem It is fairly straight forward and a lot easier than the front shocks. Things to note: the two 10 mm top mount bolts heads (on each side) may be slightly corroded (3 of the 4 on mine were) so you may have to hammer the 10 mm socket firmly On to avoid rounding the bolt heads off. These torque up to 30 Nm. Also when re assembling remember to put some locking fluid on the main lower mounting bolt (one either side) you should see some old locking fluid originally applied at the factory when you remove it... and remember to torque that lower bolt to 150 Nm.

Will do although I know already this is not going to be as straight forward as the rear shocks

Hammerite satin black is a much nicer finish than surface rust, don't you think ?
