Preparing an S40 for very little use - any tips?
Shortly, I will be going from using my 98 S40 everyday to using it only on alternative weekends, if not even less than that.
I have decided to keep it fully insured for obv reasons but is there any other precautions I should take (mechanically) to prepare it for limited useage? bearing in mind that my technical expertise is very minimal and I wouldn't want to incur extra costs - just look after it! Thanks in advance |

Using it every other weekend shouldn't be an issue as it's still pretty regular. The only thing I would say is make sure it has a nice run occasioinaly, constant short trips are not good for cars.

Every other weekend should be no problem, just make sure its run until fully warmed up, a good 20 minutes to ensure the minimum amount of crankcase acids etc get left in the engine. Also keep the oil cleaner than you would normally by changing every 6 months.
Would the alarm run the battery flat in two weeks? You might need to plug in a battery maintainer. Andy |
