Default V50 Grill Compatibility Question

Having read lots of threads I've got a bit confused on whether the grille from the current V50 (the nice new style) can be fitted to a V50 with the original grille (2004/2005 chrome grandad style)?

Can anyone confirm that the new grille can be used a straight swap on a 2005 model?

Thanks

In a word, no. The newer one is a different size and shape. If you want the newer grille you have to change to the newer bumper and then the older headlights won't fit the newer bumper, it can get expensive!! A few of us have changed our V50 chrome grilles to one from the pre-facelift S40 and it looks much better but they are hard to get hold of at a decent price.

Thanks for the info. That was going to be my next question, where can I get hold of the pre-facelift S40 grill at a half decent price?

Anyone know of any third party ones that look very similar, I'm not really after the modded look.

Thanks

Have a look at this thread:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=145206

I put in some links to sellers on ebay who are either breaking a S40 or selling the bumpers, they may remove the grille for a good price. I eventually found a brand new one and bought it for £65 but I got lucky I guess.

If you do find one then be quick as a lot of people are doing the same thing!!

Third party ones don't usually come with the badge attached and you have to try and remove your old one and refit it on the new grille and that can look silly if not done perfectly. Members on the forum have done it so it can be done but personally I'd get an OEM grille if you can.

I'd rather buy a second grill, knowing me I'd completely mess it up.

Plus I like the big cross section style grill and I'd be able to put my snooper remote detector inside of the sections.

I paid £50 for my second hand S40 grille, just for reference.

I'd be very happy to pay £50 for a second hand one, just don't know where to find one!
