A little bit of detective work
When I recently bought my V50, the dealer promised me he would be sending me the service history, as it wasn't with the car at the time. 'I'll post it out to you' was his last words...
Well after waiting two weeks I decided to investigate the history myself. I noticed on the number plates the name Sturgess, so I googled Sturgess and Volvo, found out they were main dealers and emailed them with my query. Within an hour they phoned me and were extremely helpful, stating there was no record of my car on the Volvo database, but that they sold the V50 to a local dealers that specialized in Volvos. I then contacted Witham garage http://www.withamgarage.co.uk/ and spoke to Graham who couldn't have been more helpful. He explained that my car was owned by a friend of his and that they still had all of the service records for my car. They would be more than happy to print off the old service invoices and send them to me; I offered to pay, but he said it was fine. He emailed me later on saying that he could do one better as he had a Volvo service history book, which he would stamp up and include the old invoices, including a Volvo wallet. i could have all this if I made a small donation to a charity of their choice! It duly came and I am over the moon with the service I have received from them, they went out of their way to help me and I am very grateful. According to Graham they supply approximately 200 new Volvos every year and service about 25 per week. If their attitude and professionalism is anything to go by then I can recommend them. Oh and the dealer I bought the V50 off? I'm still waiting to hear back from him.... |

I've used Witham Garage a couple of times myself...and had no problem with the actual work carried out (ARB drop link and shocker)...but somehow I never felt my business was "wanted" as it were (I didn't buy the car from them.?..or perhaps I'm just too sensitive..LOL)
I was "seduced" by my garage that used to look after my Saab convertible to stay with them and I have done. They always give me great service and attention and at very reasonable rates too....so I guess I'm simply sticking to what I know and trust. But in fairness I think that Witham does seem to have a good reputation...and I guess would try them again if I ever changed my garage. Neil

A little bitt of detective work
When I bought my V50 some 6 months ago, I had a "gap" in the service history and asked for it from Speeds and managed to get a print out no problem. I think because Speeds had been taken over/gone bust or whatever; that Volvo UK did the chasing and had a nice letter from them to see if they could help.
Damned good service from Volvo UK. |

I remember some years ago when I owned a V12 XJ-S, I broke down at the Jaguar main dealers, I asked for some help from the service chap, who said they were too busy to help. The parts fellas were helpful though, providing me with some water for the radiator. I called the AA who couldn't believe their attitude... They phoned me some months later to ask if I wanted them to service the V12, I enquired on the price and they said £1500 rising to £3000, after all they said, 'it would be good for our guys to learn on something like that'!! I didn't take them up on their generous offer... |
