Timing Belt Set(Kit)
I know that soon the timing belt, aux belt and other parts need replacing. I am trying to see if can get a good deal while deals are on.
The thing is I have no idea of what I need. I know I need Main Belt, Aux Belt, Some tensioners and pullys but no idea which. Also probably water pump so it's all changed at once. My car has 83K on and is 10 years old in Feb 2020. Can someone advise so I know I get the right stuff? |

Get parts from main dealer. Give their parts dept a ring and your reg and ask them for a cam belt service kit. Asks them what it comprises of. Should include cambelt aux belt and I think 2 tensioners. Water pump will be separate if you want one of those too. Ask them politely if there is any chance of discount as well

Vovlo dealer is saying 260 for parts on Ebay. Is that reasonable or not? Mechanic said 100 quid to fit does that all sound reasonable and how long will it last when replaced?

There's a couple of Volvo dealers selling parts at trade prices on e-bay and they're hard to beat and the quality will be substantially better than most aftermarket parts.
At 83k there is no need to change the water pump unless it has play or roughness - Volvo water pumps generally last the life of the engine.

Which engine is this ? The water pump on the 3.2 is problematic (only on the 3.2 https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...agnoses-79115/ )
Belt & pulleys kit, on the S60 is Continental/Contitech that makes the belt for Volvo - should be quite more affordable. For the aux belt, it's a little soon at 80k to talk pulleys, but you can sure replace the tensioner one - use only INA. Spin by hand the alternator and the A/C compressor while there, the compressor pulley bearing may start to feel a little rough by now (mine got replaced at 110k miles, use only a quality bearing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAGDkwYSFY4 ) While tearing everything apart, a thermostat may also be a good idea

There is another school of thought about buying a Volvo belt kits off EBay - aged stock? Belts should be changed at x years or miles, whichever comes first. You could be buying aged stock which in theory will need changing in a shorter space of time.
Has anything changed with FRF Swansea offering forum members a good discount on genuine parts via quoting discount code (C3??)? Always had superb service and good prices. Worth a call. |

Caffyns Volvo on ebay sell a lot of stuff so more likely their stock is "fresh"
You say "school of thought" - how many pupils?? I wouldn't have thought that a drive belt, in a light proof container and stored in a sensible place would deteriorate much with time. Cheers Dave |

Volvopartstrade on Ebay but based in Newcastle is where I got my D5 Cambelt and auxiliary belt kit from in 2018
Genuine parts at very competitive prices coupled with excellent service. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_o...kw=d5&_sacat=0

Fair opinion Harley Dave.
One question:- If you were offered a 5 year old belt, or say a year old belt - which one would you choose to buy? |
