Default What Turbo for 400HP

Morning all

Right the time has come to change the 19T.

My engine is currently being forged and the pistons are being made. 81.5 Oversized.

I have 660 CC injectors..3.8 Bar fuel reg, Hi performace fuel pump , LSD etc.

I want to know if there is an option for the TD04 to get me near or over this 400BHP figure. (I dont think so but thought id ask)

1.Is there another turbo thats recommended that wont cause me to many headaches to fit with minimal changes.

2. Got and ME4.4 read to replace the ME4.3 thats fitted. Should i scrap that idea and go for another which will be compatible with the Dials and OEM dashboard. ?

Any advice would be helpful

Cheers

Dave

I think there is a turbo that you should go for, cant remember the name of it, maybe a k24? im from the P1 S40 so dont have a clue really but you might be best getting onto Facebook and joining the volvotuning Facebook group as they will be able to answer you there. Both Shem and Tim are on in that group and can defenitly advise on the ME4.4.

I don't have Facebook ..do you have. Number for Shem ?

Anyone had dealings with the 22t compressor wheels 6x6 ? They say they can do 450 bhp but that goes against all the top limits I've seen on here . Cheers guys

I can't help with specific Volvo turbos as I'm new to volvo's (Could bore you made about subaru engine builds though)
But what ever turbo's you are considering, do look up the compressor efficiency graphs and try to learn how to understand them if you don't already.

Some turbo's might get you 410 bhp but take ages to spool then give all the power in an instant like a 2 stroke power band.
Where as another turbo might give you 390bhp and spool from 2500rpm. Which means more 'area under the graph' on the dyno graph = feels way faster 95% of the time.

If you're feeling nerdy and like to do your own research then learn how to understand compressor efficiency graphs. It might help you whittle down the choices.

getting my engine back first week in January it's now been completed with new pistons bearings etc.

I spoke to Shem and he was extremely helpful and it looks like I'm getting a hybrid turbo to get me to the 420 horsepower Mark

shem's mechanicals look amazing but his remap is a bit home brew.

power is great but expect your cruise to be disabled and your CEL disabled without consent.

a stock k24 will never do 400bhp more like 360, and its small frame so you cant really ask much more of it without compromising longevity, look at either a Garrett Gt3076 Gen 2 or Borg Warner EFRs.

you could also consider a Holset HX35W or HX40

A TD04 20T could get you there or close, but there are 22t wheels but i dont think they fit Volvo TD04 frames without machining the backplate

FWIW, you also CANT remove a CEL on a P80 4.4, its more likely a blown bulb or what youre seeing is the light go off as it becomes a knock indicator when on WOT
