Default What did you do to your S80/V70/XC70 today?

A lot of forums have a general "What did you do...." thread as a sticky, for people to post their general fixing, fettling and tinkering. Not sure if a Mod wants to make this one so.

I'll start...

Had 4 new matched tyres fitted to replace the black circles of death fitted when I bought it...massive improvement over the rubbish that was on there, particularly the ride quality. If anyone ever offers you "Fullrun" or "Autogrip" tyres.....run, run away and don't look back. What the previous owner was thinking is beyond me: they really were dreadful, nasty things with zero wet grip. Now using some Hankook Optimo 4S chosen as (a) I've had Hankooks before and whilst they're no Michelin/Pirelli, they're good tyres and (b) via a contact, who's arguing at £50 a corner v £112 best price anywhere else.

Had a 4 wheel alignment...the guy let me hang about whilst it was done: interesting to note the bolts with cams that provide the adjustment on the rear.

Did yet another sump dump - must be the 6th or 7th: I'm not counting, just doing it until the oil starts to come out the same colour as it went it!

I also fitted a new battery to my Suunto Stinger dive computer which is quite fiddly and the nice man at Timpsons pressure tested it for me for a fiver...but that doesn't really count.

Today I fitted new dash top in black ready for flocking (after France) and fitted infinity tweeter to the top speaker grills and wired them up much better than standard

Touched in some damage on the silver strippy thing on the rear bumper that mysteriously appeared overnight and gave it a thorough vacuum as it was repellent in there after months of no cleaning, a 10 month old and a moulting Dog. The Dog smell got to me in the heat so I had to get it done. Hasn't helped as the previous owner also had a Dog so the car still whiffs of Dog and my super nose can smell it!!

Maybe next week it'll get a wash, wish I had more time to keep on top of it but I haven't lately It's also due a service!!

Today I gave it a bit of a detail.
Wash
Clay bar
wash
Polish with my DA
Then finished off with a coat of collinite marque d'elegance wax

Looks good! Car isn't perfect, the odd stone chip here & there, bit of tar I couldn't shift to the back end but apart from that she looks good now!

Then I priced up the big service due soon and had a look under the bonnet to try figure out what's involved for the timing belt replacement

A quick clean, inside and out as well as purchasing a Tunit box - on offer this week, £50 deposit then £13 a month for 36months. Been looking at these for quite a while and was waiting for such a promotion. Should take car up to 217bhp (I have the 185 model) and around 345lb/ft torque. Still no match for our XC60 Polestar, but closer at least

Interesting to hear about the tyre recommendations - will probably need a new set in a couple of months so will add to the shortlist (albeit doubt I have anyone who can offer me the same discount

Never heard of Tune It before - had a look at their website and it looks interesting although I can't fathom their pricing in terms of what are you getting eg 6 months interest free credit at £32 per month = £180ish quid??? Or you take 18 months at nearly 40 quid (£720) with a bit of extra warranty thrown in.

£518, that's quite a hefty price tag. Better be flipping good.

Not today but over the last week or so...

Replaced transmission tunnel console - previous was battered and didn't have cup-holders/12v socket/retractable cover.

Popped in a silver surround to radio as was missing.

Replaced broken mirror glass in driver's vanity mirror

LED light in load compartment

LED for Dipped & Mains

Added cargo floor & new load cover (both previously missing)

MOT & 72k service today

New (spare) key coming Saturday

Still some things to do such as LEDs for number plate lights, get a tyre for spare wheel, get a jack & brace & so on. Need a new plastic gearstick mech as mine is very worn and new door seals.
