Default 440 1.8si mods

I have recently bought a 1.8 440 si and being 17 want to make it look good. I have limited cash and was wondering if anybody could help me with possible suggestions on bodykits and anything else that would make it look good and wipe the smirk off the fools that think their little 1.3 escorts are better than my 1.8 beast.

A set of 17" alloys would be a good start, www.needforspeed.co.uk and then find your car model and see what you can get, how bout window tints, and a new exhaust as well.

Hi...

It`s not going to be easy mod`in your 440-very few people cater for them. You can`t get a superchip for your model anymore-the only real thing i can think of is a full exhaust system inc. de-cat pipe, and an air filter to get a few extra bhp. Try need for speed, they are pretty good. All my stuff for my 440 came from there (other than ICE). You won`t find an after market exhaust either-again, no-one does one. You may be able to do a DIY job with a universal exhaust, but a custom one will look alot better, and it will fit alot better too. Powerflow have done both my 440`s, and they are really good quality.. Maybe a tad expensive at £140 ish for just a backbox, but it is a custom job, they are s/steel and they do look/sound sweet. www.powerflow.uk.com for your nearest dealer.

Bodykits...hmmm. Volvo made a bodykit for the very first, phase 1 440`s, but unless you want to transfer the old style bumpers to fit the extra spoilers, it won`t fit your model (i assume it`s a new shape 440, being an Si)-but you will have to search the scrapyards for this as they are few and far between-an original brand new kit from Volvo will cost just under £1,100-and it def. isn`t worth the cash. It looks nice when it`s all done, but get one second hand if you`re going to do it. Other than that, thats about all the styling you can do, unless you want to build something outrageous-but i assume you won`t be, having limited cash!

Feredo do a drilled and grooved disc and pad kit for the front of the car at about £100...but as to where to get this from im not sure. Your best bet will prob. be to go to a local Wilco Motorspares and ask them to do a search.

You could get some Volvo alloys from a scrapyard too. Some of the alloys on the later models look ok-the blade like 5-spokes are my fave-and a viable solution if you can`t afford massive alloys just yet.

So, there you go. Very good choice in car-it`s nice to have a bit of taste, and not go for something with a blue oval badge! But be careful-440`s can look dodgy-i`ve seen a few not done up right. They don`t look pretty! Subtle is the key with this motor!

Have fun. Dan

Thanx for the advice Dan. it'll be handy. i forgot to mention tho i have already got standard 6 spoke alloys on it but i was thinkin of tryin to find some from another make of car. i fancied the 16" 5 spoke alloys for the T5R but then realised that they have 5 bolts not 4! i was also thinkin about raiding other cars bodykits for parts and if it looks good stick it on. i just wanna prove to my friends who are gettin stuff like Fiat Punto's and Escorts that Volvos can look good as well as bein cheap on insurance and safe.

Surely there can be no comparison between 'Fix It Again Tomorrow's and 'Drivers Return On Foot' and a Volvo?

Incidently my 96 440 had the 5 'twin' spoke alloys on, they look absolutely superb - if you can find a set get them!

Y`ello...

I agree with Stu-the twin 5`s look well nice-i wanted some for my old 440 but they were very hard to find!

May i make a suggestion? Don`t just find what can fit from other cars and stick it on. Your car will look strange. As i said, i`ve seen a few dodgy 440`s purely because no-one makes parts for them, so people "bodge" things on. It doesn`t look so good. Attached is a good example of a bodge. Im not knocking the car, or the owners attempt-you learn from experience. But in my opinion, it doesn`t look right-the bumper doesn`t suit the lines of the car! No offence if the chap reads this of course!

And you already have one over your mates by the fact that you OWN a Volvo and they have Punto`s and Escorts! Welcome to the community!

Dan

Hi all,

You gotta agree with Dan on this one, be sure not to ruin the look of your car. If my memory serves me correctly, there's a 2.0L version of the 440, I think it's a 2.0L Si or Ci, it's the really quick one and you can distinguish it by the stripe on the rear pannel window, this car I believe has some extra spoilers etc. so see if you can find a scrap one of these...

Good luck...
