T8 gearbox behaviour question
Hi All,
I’ve recently noticed that occasionally, in power mode, when overtaking with foot flat to the floor or just speeding up that the gearbox will change at 5000 rpm rather than the normal 6.5k. It only seems to be the first time on a journey that this happens and I’m wondering if something is protecting a cold engine. I don’t normally push engines when they’re cold that’s harder to avoid in a hybrid. Seems a bit strange that performance should limited in this way as it means you can’t bank on all the performance being available. Anyone else experienced this? I can't, I never rev the engine that high, not even nearly so

No never, but the only time I push my car is out of town which is a good distance so maybe it’s already fully warm as the would have been driving on the engine for a good amount of time. Sort of getting an obd2 module I can’t think of a problem at tell tell engine temps either.
Also I could have sworn my car rev’d higher than 6.5k, although I have the PE trim so the map might be different, but maybe not as it’s been a while since I’ve driven aggressively and even then SWMBO told me to knock it off as she was feeling sick. |

Even in power mode, the car will not give you access to the full horsepower until the engine is warm. You can safely floor it and the car will handle it for you. This is probably what you're observing in the gear changes.

The gearbox is controlled and protected by an ECU it adapts to driving style and conditions/tempersture, yes it does behave differently when cold.
