Hi Alan,
Looking either side of the splined steering wheel hole (on a 1970 Amazon) are 2 threaded holes at 34mm centres. I simply made a puller from a short length of sturdy steel bar with 2 clearance holes drilled to match at 34mm centres. With the flat bar on the end of the shaft, simply wind in 2 bolts ensuring it pulls up square. Mine came off easily. I assume the PV is the same or very similar.
Chris.

I've just done the same as Chris for my 1963 Amazon:

... the little slot in a 5/8" socket is to allow the horn cable to remain out of the way, like this:

It came off the splines pretty easily and probably only took me an hour to find some scrap, cut and drill the holes, grind the slot in the socket and put it all together. That may be easier for you than trying to find the Volvo puller.

Alan

That is a really good question. I used the bolts from my harmonic puller, which I'm pretty sure would have been metric M8. They were a good fit, which seems odd because Volvo was still using imperial sizes in 1963. I didn't take any measurements of the thread, I just tried them and they fitted well.

I'd suggest having an assortment of bolts available to try, I should think M8 and 3/8" BSF would be the favourites.

Good fortune,

Alan

As far as I know the steering wheels were made in Germany, so probably metric.
The Bosch equipment used on these old Volvos will also have metric threads.
