Hi ,
New member, looking for a replacement car for my commute, 70 mile each way mix of roads.

Looking for comfort budget upto 4000, thinking of S40,60,80 might suit. Any advice welcome

V70 1.6 d Drive .Had one for 6 years, no trouble until I retired, mileage dropped , then it gave the problems that come with low use diesels.
Don’t listen to dissenters , they are good , 60 mpg, properly maintained.

I’ll wait for the avalanche!

S40/V50 pre-DPF models. The 1.6d is supposed to be 60mpg motor and the 2ltr engines are still bringing back favourable economy. I had an 06 2ltr V50 diesel and low to mid 50’s were obtainable on a run no problem

If you can find one, a pre-2006 MY S60 D5 with sub 150k miles would be a good option, 50+ MPG in sublime comfort and simple pre-DPF engine which is ultra reliable. You'd have plenty left over for some fettling and repairs, try and find a low number of owners car with good history.
