Looking for car options
Hi ,
New member, looking for a replacement car for my commute, 70 mile each way mix of roads. Looking for comfort budget upto 4000, thinking of S40,60,80 might suit. Any advice welcome Edit title spelling Last edited by Markpounder; Jul 11th, 2022 at 13:35. |

V70 1.6 d Drive .Had one for 6 years, no trouble until I retired, mileage dropped , then it gave the problems that come with low use diesels.
Don’t listen to dissenters , they are good , 60 mpg, properly maintained. I’ll wait for the avalanche!

S40/V50 pre-DPF models. The 1.6d is supposed to be 60mpg motor and the 2ltr engines are still bringing back favourable economy. I had an 06 2ltr V50 diesel and low to mid 50’s were obtainable on a run no problem

If you can find one, a pre-2006 MY S60 D5 with sub 150k miles would be a good option, 50+ MPG in sublime comfort and simple pre-DPF engine which is ultra reliable. You'd have plenty left over for some fettling and repairs, try and find a low number of owners car with good history.
