Classic V70 auto or V40?

Hi all,

My Mum has recently written off her Classic V70 TDI auto. She loved it and wants to replace it with something similar. It doesn't really need to be diesel, but must be auto! Would rather have something relatively well spec'd - leather / cruise control etc. Must be well maintained and would prefer something that's not beaten up! Will consider any engine size, although on the v40 side of things, I think the 1.6 and 1.8 may be a little under powered. Have been looking into getting her a nice P2 V70, but really our budget is only going to get her an early MY and I've been reading horror stories a plenty so don't really want to go there!

Our max. budget is £1300 and we have cash waiting.

We've driven around half the south of England over the last few weeks and seen some total rubbish, so please, be honest with everything I need to know!
