I forgot to add that I complained to the trader that engine management faults weren't mentioned in his description of the car. So before I posted any feedback I gave him the option of reimbursing me for the two sensors. As a goodwill gesture he refunded me.

The sensor and solenoid I bought new on eBay for just under £90.

My local Volvo agent wanted £93 + vat for just the boost sensor.

Default Random codes and easy swirl flap repair.

I had a sh1t load of codes due to a low battery. Just wipe them so you can start again.

Limp mode will be due to missing swirl flap actuator arm, this will trigger when you go over about 3k revs (from memory), but clear itself on restart and car will drive normally if you keep the revs down. This issue is well documented, as are the repairs, official or otherwise.

Arm on mine pops off when the stepper motor calibrates itself (about every 5th shut down I think). My non-standard fix involves a soft spring from the engine lifting hook to hold the arm gently in place against the peg on the swirl flap quadrant. It’s probably done 80,000 miles like that now. Seems about the easiest fix for this, just need to find a suitable soft spring - I found 2 just by keeping my eyes peeled, though one was a bit stiff and I felt it might restrict the movement or cause excess wear.

If you can’t find one that’s suitable, something like a governor spring off a lawn mower engine looks about right.
