The 13 pin towbar wiring and trailer module xc90 2005-14 from Volvo Partshop came in delivered and inclusive of Vat @ £ 80.23 (Feb 2016).
Nb., the 7 pin version was more expensive! Genuine volvo parts direct plug in connections -brilliant and much cheaper than I was expecting. Part no. For 12 pin. 31285778-30664974 Nb., you don't need to strip out all the interior panel work suggested in the instructions - you can reach up inside left hand panel and plug in (just!). Fitted To my 2009 XC90 Caper Green Pearl SE Lux |

You can also use it to charge your vehicke battery: make an adapter lead and connect the battery charger to the trailer socket

Sorry to revive an old thread - but...
I successfully fitted a tow bar and Volvo electrics to my MY2011 Exec a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I neglected to take Swiss's advice and I fitted single 7 pin electrics when I ought to have gone the 13pin route. I now need to change to 13pin due to purchase of a new to me caravan with 13pin elects and a need for live feeds for various kit on board. Can I just buy the 13pin cable from FRF and replace the existing 7 pin cable? If so - is the correct part number 31285778? I know I will probably need to put in some fuses as well for the additional connections. Cheers Dave |

You already have the trailer module. The new 13 pin harness should just plug in and work - all functions.

Thanks for that gmonag, confirms what I expected.
I was in Aus when I posted the query so couldn't easily speak with Simon at FRF and he doesn't always respond to emails... Anyway, I spoke with him today and he confirms the 13 Pin cable is indeed part number 31285778 and is available as a separate item from FRF with 12% forum discount, coming out at £58.08 plus postage. I've got a query in to Volvo parts shop too and will compare their price (when they get back to me...) and post the result on here later. Edit - Volvo parts shop agree the part number too and can supply the 13 Pin cable for £62.82 inc Vat and Postage Cheers Dave Last edited by Harley Dave; Jan 22nd, 2018 at 15:53. Reason: Update |

Quick one here, my 53 plate XC has the proper Volvo towbar wiring for 7pin, it has a grey multi plug on the o/s, the plug go's into what looks like the original unmolested Volvo wiring loom, I think the "fly" lead has been purchased at some point and plugged in, on 7pin it's fine but I need 13pin for the new caravan, simple fix and fitted the 13pin plug and wired in but I could do with a permanent live and another earth for al-ko ATC, I'm thinking of taking a 12V perm off the live split block next to battery and running that down to the plug, then a earth from anywhere suitable. Anyone tried this at all?
(Reason for doing this as apossed to buying new wires is that the car was cheap and I'm trying to keep my costs down!) FYI the lights all work on the caravan with the new wired 13pin plug. |
