Who makes the s80 timing belts and water pumps?
My s80 is a 2006 2.4 d5 with 156 thousand miles so I want to change the timing belt kit, water pump and aux belt.
Quick question though. Who makes these parts for volvo? Iv spoken to main dealers nearby and the prices and extortianate. Thanks in advance. |

General advice is that genuine Volvo waterpump is good for several hundred thousand miles. People who have replaced perfectly serviceable one with a pattern part then find they have issues a lot sooner than if they'd left original in place.

Most water pumps come with a 2 year warranty too so thats also attractive. Its more peice of mind than anything else. Thats if I buy genuine parts. |

May well be the case that the genuine item is the only one made to the long lasting standard, others out of the same factory will be less expensive

My indy, who has been working solely on Volvos for a looooooong time, leaves the water pump well alone on a cambelt change if it all look good on inspection. He say they are bullet proof (unlike the tensioner associated with the aux belt) |

Never bothered with coolant pumps on any of the changes I've done. Mine is currently at 200k miles on the original pump. Much better buys for pre emptive maintenance would be the auxiliary setup and a new alternator pulley. They're much more likely than an original coolant pump to cause an issue long term.

Ask your main dealer for owners club discount. This can be 10 - 25% depending on how they feel

As per above, I did both belt kits at 130k and the water pump was still as smooth as new with no play at all. I also don't understand why you think £85 is expensive for a high quality belt and tensioner, and pulley. The pulley alone has a Swiss INA bearing that's probably worth £85 which explains why mine was like new after 130k. And £56 for an aux belt and tensioner ? Peanuts ! As for who makes them, surely we don't need to doubt that Volvo would skimp on these parts. I did wonder myself when first unboxing it, but saw the INA marking and didn't worry after that. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-Tim...item2cb7e491b0 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-V...item2ca76fb51f
