Car heading back to dealership or should I say stealership, be interested to see what they diagnose now, heres me thinking with all the fancy electronics and diagnosis software it would be an easy fix.

I noticed the dealership never replaced this hose will see what they try now and point out to them this could be an issue, didnt see the point in the garage going to the expense of replacing the intercooler which clearly wasnt the fault when they could have tried an inexpensive hose first?

£2.4K including the swirl flap fix which they assured us was the problem intiially (£700).

I hope it aint the turbo needing replaced its only done 73K. Then again its on warranty so better now rather than later.

Only if you add experience to the mix

I can't remember exactly but ours went at ~ 95K.

:-(

If it ends up being this, make sure they put in a new one (I have no info that reconditioned aren't as good but they might try to sneak that past you).

Worth a read , this fault was caused by a collapsing Turbo Hose when the engine was put under load. Missing photobucket photos can usually be accessed by using Chrome and altering settings. See 1st Link

Update on the ongoing saga, Volvo dealership have now diagnosed it to faulty turbo charger? Due to the age and value of the car the car has been exchanged as not worth putting a new turbo in as dealer has already spent a small fortune in wrongly diagnosed faults >5k spent to date.
Very worrying when a Volvo dealership cant diagnose a fault without replacing perfectly good parts in the process (I hope the good parts taken off my car never went in the bin and somebody somewhere managed to use them), thankfully never cost me a penny. It's unbelievable in this day and age people accept this level of incompetence from so called experts, sadly all evidence points to way too much reliance on fault code readers and no good old fashioned fault finding experience. I am of the impression now a lot of these so called Technicians out there are more part changers than anything else, certainly not traditional mechanics who relied on their senses and experience.
Lesson learned warranties are worth their weight in gold when buying a second hand car of this type.
Hopefully the replacement car has no issues like its predecessor, fingers crossed.

@garyy

My 2010 V70 D5 is currently in a garage and has been for the past 5 weeks...in the first instance they said it was a broken EGR valve which when investigated turned out the cooler attached to it was cracked and had allowed an ingress of coolant thus clogging the EGR Valve....both these were replaced with genuine Volvo parts and all seemed well....I had taken out a platinum after warranty from the original garage I bought the car from called "Warranty Wise" and fronted by the famous Quentin Wilson.....when it came time to claim for the above parts they declined the claim saying it was wear and tear and therefore not covered even though the Platinum warranty states "All electrical and Mechanical parts covered" I was told it doesn't cover wear and tear...well I'm still waiting for the garage to sort the problem as it seems these components are not the only reason for the loss of power.....the garage has now sent the turbo off to be examined by a specialist although they had supposedly done this two weeks previous....I feel I'm getting ripped off from both the Warranty people and the Garage where my car is currently.....totally pi**ed off now and they still don't know what the intermittent lack of power is....any help provided would be gratefully received as I'm pulling my hair out now....already paid £1075 out for those two parts and the labour...advice please? thank you in advance.....

Update 2010 V70 D5 91k

The Turbo specialist has stated that the bearings had failed and that they had stopped the vanes from working properly of the turbo...they refurbished with new bearings and cleaned the turbo at a cost of £400 according to the Garage.....anyway they rang me today to ask me if I would go in to speak to them as they have since fitted the turbo and the car still has the problem of no boost.....they have stated that there are no error codes and that they are at a loss as to what is the next plan of attack saying that they have already spent 64 hours and have changed various parts and still the problem remains.....I am now totally lost for words as I trusted this garage to complete the work and fix my car.....to this end they have failed....what if anything do I owe them as I feel they have not fulfilled their end and fixed my car....I require good advice from someone who has been in a similar situation please...thank you in advance....

Well its simple, isn't it?

My cars broken , can you fix it ? Yes, thank you, I will pay you to fix it.

Have you fixed it? No. Now your telling me you cant. Ok, Thank you, Goodbye.

Their lack of training, knowledge or expertise is not your problem.

They may say they are owed money, but they haven't fixed your car and thats was the implied and assumed contract.

If they argue they have changed parts and thats at a cost, get them to put the old ones back on, they where obviously not the issue!

If they are a decent garage, they will, or just accept they have failed and leave it as is.

I do sympathise with you. Good luck.
