What's Your Mpg?
As a self confessed featherweight in the right foot department and obsessed with the best economy I can get (should have bought a Prius but can't afford it). Oh yeah and my wife thinks I'm a bit mad, I would be interested to know what the best average MPG you lot get from your Volvos.
State the engine size, model, petrol, diesel or LPG, auto or manual on a combined cycle. At the moment my 850 2 litre 20v shows 28.2 MPG which is about as good as it gets I think or maybe not. And yes I do freewheel down hills. Alas not up. If only I could. Your feedback is of most interest as then I might not feel quite as bad about shelling out loads of cash on fuel. Yours, Bah Humbug and miserly Juliobee. |

I have worked that out to be approximately 18mpg. But that is around town and you have 500cc more engine than me.

Hi,
V90 3.0and a full tank will give me 470 miles with a long run and small bit of town traffic.. Averages about 27mpg.. Not sure about the 940 as there is a set of chips to be fitted, new injectors and MBC 240 2.3 - unknown quantity at the moment.. Des. . .

S60 2.4T average about 27mpg with a 50/50 mixture of town and open road driving. the computer normally reads about 28.5 average but this is slightly optimistic. I can average on the motorways about 38mpg.

Us D5 owners are always going to win this one!
Volvo S60 2.4 D5 163BHP 45 ish MPG on average. On a long run motorway only then easily 60+ BTW the Prius is not as economical as you might think! You will get more MPG around town - as your mainly on electrical power but on a run it's just a normal petrol burner and not "that" efficient compared to some. The batteries also contain lead making it a bit of a pig to create and to recycle environmentally they also suffer from memory so they become less and less efficient over time. Secondly as they can't be charged from the mains ( which is very poor anyway from the original coal burning power station to electrical back to chemical) only by the kinetic to chemical energy conversion under braking, when your in town that momentum is low anyway - due to being in town, so you quite often find the batteries are pretty much flat - unless you go on a run. Yes the petrol engine also charges the batteries but again you lose loads of energy again converting it several times over. Electrical cars "clean" my backside!

V70 D5 163 ... haven't reset the average MPG on the computer since just after I bought it (April), and it's sitting on 43.1mpg at the moment. That's on a mixture of short commutes, moderately gentle A-road ambling, and longer motorway trips.
