Default air filter

not very impressed as recently took my 1999 V70 for a major service 240k (24th) and they didn't replace the air filter as they said they couldn't get one locally (main dealer)

They were going to order one from Volvo Sweden and it wouldn't arrive until 13th February

I phoned up another dealer within 30 miles of where I live and the parts guy said it would take him 10 days to get one as they are not readily available considered a "classic" part

In fairness to the dealer who serviced mine they said they would fit it at no charge for my inconvenience once it arrives, but i am not happy they are so hard to get original parts for.....is this going to be an on going concern for any "older" parts...especially as more is likely to have to get replaced as it's getting on.....

yes the old girl does rattle a couple of places, but at 20 years old and now 242k i feel it is just breaking in (still on first clutch too)

There is a sizeable aftermarket supply for all service items and will be for the foreseeable future. Might struggle with genuine items, but any good aftermarket brand will meet or exceed that OE spec anyway.

I'll second that. I've never had problems getting filters of any kind for my 1997 V70 Tdi.. ever..

One company that I have used, and got good service from in the past is PFS, Parts for Volvo's Online. I'm sure many on here are familiar with them.

Default Volvo parts no longer available

To pass the MoT on my 1999 V70 T5 it needed a pressed steel piece of metal onto which the rear suspension is attached (plus a hook for the silencer) as it was rusted. To my surprise the main dealer told me Volvo don't make this part any more, so they would have to repair the rusty bit with welds. I asked them to look up the part number on PFS and for £35 incl postage the right bit of metal is available. So I ordered it and a week later it was then fixed by the main dealer to give an MoT pass.

Main dealers need to have a better attitude - no good shrugging shoulders saying the part is no longer made and they only fit Volvo parts!

The other thing is that you have to tell a main dealer what you want replaced because they seem not to have a note of what extra things needs doing at 20, 30 and 40k intervals. You are likely to get a 10k service and a nice report on things green, yellow and red for things you can see easily, but for the invisible things nothing! So no air filter or pollen filter change, nor new coolant and brake fluid unless you tell them to do it.
