Default Key fob issue??

Hi

On my recently purchased volvo V50 2.0D I've been having some issues and yesterday I went out in the car all fine got to my destination locked the doors then opened again fine got home and nothing won't lock unlock can still start the car fine

I've been told this will need to go to volvo for a re sync? Is this correct? Also is this expensive

Thanks
