Could be anything mate. Have you got a spark? is the fuel fresh (modern crap goes off in no time)? Timing and compression alright? When was it last run ?
Its a case of just working your way through. They are simple enough compaired to a modern. Best of luck. |

i had this problem in my 1973 144 except that it would start after about 10-15 seconds of chhhh chhhhing. turned out my carburetor's float chamber was leaking and so there was no fuel to start the car and it took a while to pump up into the carburetor. got it fixed and starts instantly now!

Check the (thin) wire and connection points from the coil to the condensator. Had this problem on my 164. I cleaned up the terminals, made a new wire w/new connections and it fired up right away.

non starter
You don't say if it's auto or manual ?
If it's auto then it could be the inhibitor switch which I believe is located on the gearstick If it's manual check to see if you have a good spark at the plugs also the Coil to dissy cap lead see if there's a good spark Could also check compression Charlotte |
