I'm not100% sure what a planting sleeve is, but I've been led to believe that it is something to do with the drive shaft.

I've been in the motor trade all my working life and have never heard of a planting sleeve. Reading between the lines so to speak, could it be a locking ring of some description, similar to the one holing the rear wheel bearings on old live axled Fords?

probably ! Something to do with translation , clamping or coupling sleeve would be the correct term ,they did tend to crack and as the gearbox shadt splines were harder , luckily didnt damage them . are they still available though? 3281332
