Came across this thread today And it sounds exactly what I need to get through my MOT. ABS light is on randomly about 80% of the time. Im absolutely skint so this is a potential godsend - thanks to all previous posters!

But I need more help....

I can't actually find the ECU in my 1996 850 - I'm asuming it is inside the black plastic box in between the coolant & the screen wash intake on the left in my photo. But I can't see any way to open this other than cutting the metal band which goes over it - so can anyone confirm before I go ahead and do this (or suggest a better way of opening it if Im missing something!)

Thanks!

The ABS ECU isn't in this box.

Engine and potentially ignition and / or transmission ECUs are in that box.

ABS ECU is on the opposite side of the engine bay, in the corner, up near the firewall, just below the actual ABS pump.

Default Thanks!

So I was in completely the wrong place, thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

Well as you can see I am not someone who is particularly familiar with what lies under my bonnet, topping up oil & water and checking tyre pressure is the usual limit of my mechanical aptitude!

But last night I did the deed, put the ecu back in this morning and voila no more ABS light All in time for MOT at 8am this morning (passed!)

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this excellent thread!

This is because the ABS module is providing the speed pulse to the cluster

You'd probably get a lot more help if you posted this in the S60 forum, instead of this one, I've no idea if the ABS unit on your car is the same as an 850/n70 car.....

I see a lot of repairs here for this abs module. I don't see a anything about who makes the abs module being repaired.

I have a ATE teves mk60. .....and so far no one messes with them....bba is in the r&d stage. What is the manufacturer of the abs. Board your dealing with...

Mine is a bmw.....and they have no information on fixing them....the vw guys and Audi are at a loss as well......they tried to get a recall on it but nothing happened

Hi All
Can someone please point me in the direction of any photo's detailing this abs module repair?
I can't appear to find any on this thread and would like to attempt this myself.

Many thanks
Enn
