Judging by the Lamda Grill on the front of it, it will be on LH2.4 not the early motronic ECU. Which in turn means it will have a cat unless the previous owner has seen sense and put a decatted system on it as its old enough to not need one by law.

So a good first upgrade if the car is still cat equipped is to stick a large 3inch straight through exhaust system on it and get rid of the restriction of the cat.

It says on the auction it doesnt have a cat, and its just had a complete new exhaust system.

Fair enough, its one of the cross over years, so will be interesting to see if its LH2.4 or a very late Motronic system with the 02 sensor attached.

The ET's produce more power as standard and have a bigger turbo, but the FT's have more upgrade potential, a better engine management system (chips readily and cheaply available), better fuel economy and stronger con-rods. The first of the FT's have the advantage of not having to use a Cat too. At a guess your new car is one of the first FT's as it is '90 model year which is when Volvo introduced the FT to the Uk market. As Chesh says the 'catalyser' badge gives the game away as it being a FT engined car.

Your bumpers don't have fogs in them because the headlight cluster includes fog and spotlights
