Identification Plate.

Hi,

On the front panel of my 940 and V90 I have 2 plates.

One the traditional ali one with the vin, colour etc etc..
The other is a body coloured one, screwed in not rivited as the other, and with a volvo logo and a number.

Volvo dealer is wholly unaware of the reason, or significance for the second plate or the number thereon.

Any one have any ideas?

Hi my 760 has a colour plate to I understand from a conversation with Volvo in Sweden it's a body number as apposed to a chassis or vin code.

Body number as in xxxxxxxx body off the production line.
Or is there a style ramification to it??

As in xxxxx off the production line. Don't remove it as you may fail the MoT without it.

No need to me to remove it... It is rusting off all of its own accord!!!

Might be worth getting the old rivett gun out and refit it. (do rivett guns still exist)

Hi,

Strangely enough, I do have a riveter

However, this plate is screwed on and opposite the ali one that is riveted on.
Took ages to get the screws out too.
But necessary as I want to get rid of the rust there...
As the Dealer doesn't knwo what it is they cannot order one as a replacement!
Will try Volvo UK and see what they have to say for themselves..

Des, if this plate is located above the pass side headlight it's the Body Number Plate.

Thanks Rupert, it is actually between the passenger headlight and the bonnet catch.

The significance of the Body Number and will the MOT tester fail for it not being there???
While I clean the rust off and galvanize/paint it and the bodywork..

only the VIN number has to be noted for the MOT so can't see how the body number plate would make a difference if it was there or not
