Just Bought a New 700 Series!!
Hi
Some of you may of read in the 850 section that my dads volvo has gone VERY badly wrong. We are unsure what to do with it yet, but either way, he needs another car to get to and from work. Given that he needs an estate to lug all his stuff around, Ive agreed to give him my mint 740GLE Estate that you have all seen on here. That left me carless. But i saw a nice 740 on ebay, and decieded to buy it now. It sounded somewhat a bargain, so here it is: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=200015487336 A volvo 740 2.3 Turbo. and the increase to insurance? £30 given the list of things hes done to it, the fact its got 11 months MOT, tax til december, and just had the cambelt done, its a bargain. Im already thinking of simple and inexpensive mods to get the power over 200BHP Maybe you can help with that 1stRaven So whats everyones opinion on my somewhat impulse buy?

Yeah looks a nice car, if you want quick and cheap added performance from it, just purchase an MBC and a calibrated Boost Gauge and turn the boost up to around 12psi or where ever it starts to detontate and be happy.
After that theres lots of other little mods to do to further increase power, but do a stage 0 on it first and ensure that the engine is given a thorough service first. I.e Plugs, leads, Dizzy and cap, Filters, cure oil leaks. Get the basics done first before extracting more horses. |

MBC?
If i could get around 220bhp or even a figure over 200, that would be enough for me Thanks for all the comments so far. I was semi glad my estate didnt have a turbo as its one less thing to go wrong, but ive been wanting something a bit faster of late, and this seemed like a good oppourtunity. Just hope its as reliable as my trusty estate has been so far

Manual Boost Controller, about £20 or so from ebay.
Goes between the turbine housing and the actuator. Increases the boost pressure, which in turn gives you more power. |

is it reliable? doesnt really sound too good.
I'll run it for a week or so, see what the power is like stock, then might start messing around with it
