Doesn't the DPF put it up a group, the Euro 4 cars are a band higher than Euro 3, I always thought that was due to the additional fuels used during regen, but if the majority dont have a DPF then it must be something else.

Thanks for the response. That is exactly what's wrong, being faced with a huge bill to replace the blasted thing every 75k miles, especially as I'd do that much every 2.5 years or so. Apparently the MOT test has no interest at all in whether you've had it removed, but I would worry greatly about the 'removal' firm being able to fiddle the ecu perfectly so as not to cause long-term damage to the engine. I intend keeping the car to a big mileage so I'm not worried about having to explain the loss of the dpf to the next buyer.

Another false alarm from Volvo UK.

Was talking to Volvo UK about the clutch recall and DPF came up and as I was told my car had one (2008 (57) S40 2.0D EURO4).

As I had a bought the car on the basis of not having a DPF I spoke to the dealer who were willing to sort something out.

So based on this thread I had a look under the rear of the car and above the rear subframe is what looks like a silver metal weight with no visible pipe work.

So does that confirm no DPF?

Does anyone have a pic of a Eloys tank?

Here are some pics of the rear subframe for clarification.

If you had an EOLYS tank it would be just forward of the weight in the space between the two axle beams . there doesnt seem to be anything there and the black tailpipe gives a very good chance you havent one , the 8th digit of the VIN being a 4 would confirm not having one ..

Question dpf mystery

I've been following the threads on how to find out if a V50 has a dpf - and I seem to have some things that suggest I have and others that suggest I haven't.

I have a 2005 V50 diesel manual which has covered 110000 miles.

My local garage says I have a dpf (which they told me about because the oil I'd supplied for an oil change was the wrong spec for a car fitted with a dpf. The oil was sold to me by a Volvo dealer!)

The 8th character of the VIN is "5".

There appears to be a filter pressure sensor by the battery.

The "silencer" under the driver's seat floorpan is short - about 30cm.

All of the above suggests the car has a dpf.

However, there is no EOLYS tank on the rear axle, and I have never had the dpf changed, despite the mileage. No warning lights either.

DPF or no DPF? Any advice gratefully received!

Many thanks

Your car was originaly built with a DPF from what you say , are you SURE there is no EOLYS tank ? Between the two axle beams in the centre ? Perhaps someone removed it? who knows ...
