Thanks Clan.
Looking from the rear of the car, I can see the weights mounted between the axle beams but no tank. As I look at the car from the rear, is the tank on the boot side of the weights or the engine side?

Should a warning light have come on if there was a problem with the dpf?

Would a dpf that needed replacing affect power and mpg?

Thanks

there would of usually been some kind of warning if the dpf was reaching capacity or was full, possibly get some emissions warning lights as well...

a full dpf would affect the car esp the mpg...

there are two black beams going across the back of the car between the rear wheels , the rearward one has the weight on it and there is another about 6 inches towards the front , the EOLYS tank is mounted between these two beams in front of the weight , at the same level as the weight .
Yes if you had a problem with the Particle filter it would put a message up in the instrument panel .

Default Removal of DPF and ECU change

Hi All,

Newbie here so go gently!

I am just buying a 20008 '57 plate V50 with the 8th digit of the VIN as a 4. It looks as though I may be lucky and have no DPF. But, i have read all the comments with interest and know from experience with other cars how expensive this can be.

I did a search to try and find a picture of a backaxle beam with a DPF on it but to no avail. Interseyingly, I did find this instead.

http://www.motormods.co.uk/dpf.html

This company will remove the DPF, modify the pipework and change the ECU settings. I haven't spoken to them, but it may be the a possible answer to the expense of having a DPF changed. May be worth investigation by members faced with this potential problem.

No , The EOLYS disaapeared when the D4164T did about a year ago , the D2 doesnt have it , but does have the particle filter like the large Volvos so doesnt need to be changed .

Default Mines an '07 V70 but heres a question...

I had decided to keep my V70 for a few more years even though it has 93000 miles, as it is non dpf and IMHO, better looking than the later car , however, reading this thread I am starting to think that the V70 dpf is less of an issue than I thought. I imagined i might be getting rid of a great car and buying a troublesome one. So, and I guess I am talking to Clan here, Should the DPF issue not be a worry to me if I buy an 08 onwards V70 deisel auto? Current 07 car vin 8th number is 4.....

Thanks for all and any opinions

the later cars generaly don't have an issue , soot filter full messages are remarkably scarce compared to the pre 2007 D5 . remember if you are stuck in town a long time( days , weeks ) you might get a message advising a 15 min drive at 50+ mph , this preceeds the Soot filter full message so you are not suddeny at the mercy of the dealer if you act accordingly .. The 8th digit of VIN only works on S40/V50 etc range of cars. If you have a 163bhp D5 its still young , just needs a cambelt and rollers etc and all ready for another 100,000 miles with economy and power getting better and better .
