I must admit been round Volvos a long time and that's a new model on me. Bit of research proves to be a very interesting one too!

Have to say tho adverts like that really annoy me. How do you expect to get "offers" with that description and one rubbish pic......if he is serious about a sale why not take 20mins and do a proper ad?

Indeed, looks very promising though. I bought some Virgo alloys that were advertised as 242GT wheels though. Black with polished rim.

Probably an Australian import since you could get them over there and in RHD. Rare over here but overall not that rare in mass production numbers.

Interesting.

I don't think it's an Australian import, they had RHD pattern wipers.

Also, I think it's earlier than 82. Despite what the ad says, that points towards it being an import, given a UK registration at the import date. (My Mercedes is the same, UK reg April 86 when it was imported from Pakistan).

The 242 could be a LHD car converted. It has LHD wipers

As you say, an Australian import would have RHD pattern wipers. I suspect that it's a pre-1978/79 example that, if it had a period plate, would have carried at best a "T" suffix one; the easiest way would be to see the boot lid or rear wing: wrap-around tail lamps would point to a steering wheel conversion; non-wrap around would, while not eliminating a conversion, re-inforce the suspicion that it's an import.

It could be a 'bitsa' car with parts from various models/years. (Not being negative - all mine are like that!).

I stand to be corrected, but if it's fairly original in spec, my bet is that it's a 1979 LHD car converted to RHD.

This car has 'streamlined' headlight surrounds whereas earlier round-headlight 240s had a flat grille under each light.

The mirrors are the 'interim' electric type, i.e. after the metal mirrors used to 1978. However, I don't think the GT had these fitted standard - they normally have the rectangular plastic manually adjustable type. So this could be a special order (it also has factory air-con) or could be parts taken from a 260.

(Might possibly be a 1980.... something tells me that Volvo retained round lights on the GT when other 240s moved on to square/rectangular lights, or maybe they had lots of unsold 79 GTs left over! Or it could be a 78 if those mirrors are retro fitted, or earlier if headlight surrounds and mirrors are later additions!)

UK market 79 cars have RHD wipers, so together with the wrong year registration, that points again to it being an import.

Does anyone on her know of the car? Seems odd that an enthusiast owned car (IPD bars, R-sport instruments) wouldn't be known about in the club or forum)

It has to be an import or it was sat in a show room for a few years.

It must be a 78/79. I doubt it has been converted from LHD to RHD it is a lot of work and on a GT the exhaust manifold would have to be changed.

I thought that it was the 1980/81 model year that changed to RHD wipers on RHD cars but I could be wrong. (for UK cars)

Whatever it "really" is, has anyone emailed to find out what the seller considers a sensible offer to be?

Hang on a minute, I just need to pick up my internal organs off the floor. I laughed so hard at his price they fell out.

£8k? You gotta be kidding me. For that kind of price I'd want it absolutely mint and a sexual favour from his wife (or daughter if shes over 16) thrown into the deal.
