What's the point of the EURO4 2.4D?

Hi Chaps,

I've been looking at possible P2 S60 purchases, and would like a bit more info on the 163PS 2.4D (not the EURO3 D5!).

As a 'watered down' version of the 185PS D5, it seems to offer no real fuel economy advantage - for less performance

I believe it's virtually the same mechanically as the D5, so would have pretty much the same reliability(??).

The 2.4D also seems to come in more 'poverty spec' configurations!

Are there any hidden benefits to the 2.4D which might make it more attractive?

They’re identical to a euro 4 D5 with 185bhp.

Not really any benefits, just less power. MPG is slightly better though, but only marginal.

163bhp is perfectly adequate. Don’t be thinking they’re slow because they aren’t. Plenty of torque & grunt out of the 5 cylinder engine.
