Totally staged but would anyone doubt the Alfa Romeo? The flakiness is all in the mind of the journalist thus anyone who has a problem thinks it was inevitable. Now Alfa dealers and aftercare on the other hand....

Quite upset I discounted the Stelvio on the basis the rhd were not available with a tow kit............ maybe why a LHD was used?

My theory is thus:

The Volvo has engine mounts which are designed to break in a controlled way in the event of a serious collision. The mounts will break in such a way that the engine will come out of the vehicle and the go underneath. This prevents the engine coming back into the driver's or passenger's legs.

My assumption is that the jumping caused the partial failure of these mounts, but this was not a mechanical failure as such, more an early activation of a passive safety feature.

I very much doubt such a failure would be likely in even the most extreme off-road use from someone who actually owned the car....

I was disappointed that they broke two XC60s for entertainment but let’s face it, most of us that own, or in my case are going to replace, with new, aren’t the kind of people who would rag a 50k car around like that anyway.

My motivation is the brand and the overall package.

I looked at the Velar because Mrs R thought it looked pretty, and it is, but rejected it because we are not “Range Rover” people, if that doesn’t sound too pretentious. The interior is lovely but bland. Same with the Q5; well put together but ultimately soulless.

Of all the cars we considered, the XC60 was the nicest car to sit in (especially in Blond) And the kind of driving I do, it’s almost perfect.

I trust City Safety, as it’s saved me more than once, which is more than I can say about the Mercedes we tried.

So while I love Top Gear, it hasn’t sent me scrambling for my deposit back.

good theory and could be the reason why both engines fell out.

I wonder if this will be confirmed by Volvo ?

Nothing new here yet, though I doubt there will be a reaction on a global media, maybe there will be country specific subsite.

Suspect quite a few, maybe even millions. Its entertainment, I would never use it to select what car to buy but its more interesting than most of the reality sh1te on tv these days...
