OBD2 reader and app
I just picked up a Viecar OBD2 reader on flea bay for £16, plus the car scanner app on IOS (pro version is £7 for life). I didn’t expect too much for the money, but I’m actually very impressed.
My XC60 was showing low battery this morning, so hooked it up for a run (to do some essential shopping). I set the dashboard to battery % and DPF soot, which started at 55% and 24.52g when I left the house. Battery crept up gradually, more quickly on A-roads and slowly on dual carriageway. Soot crept up to 25g, then I felt the car change and watched the soot drop through the regen cycle. This was not finished as I was due to park, so I carried on another mile or two until it had finished. End of the run was 67% battery and 5g soot, so great to see how effective this was on a run. Also cleared 6-7 DTC codes, so great value. Now to try on my other cars...

I went for Car Scanner. Just trying the free version for now and the pro version is £3.49 for 6mths, £4.49 for a year or £6.99 forever. Tried it on my XC60 and V70 and the wife’s Nissan Juke. Works with all and cleared all codes.
Only code on the Juke was low battery (It’s been on the drive 5 weeks without a run). XC60 had 6 or 7. 2011 V70 had a list as long as my arm, but once cleared none have returned.

Looking at the Car Scanner app on the Playstore (Google) the pro version is priced at a price you'd like to give to the developer based on how much you feel its worth: £2.69 or £3.69 or £5.99 - not sure if this is the same app you're using? It's this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ovz.carscanner Thanks

Hi,
Few months ago I bought this Viacar OBDII adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3301...61f94c4dN8Xr46 Price was less than $15 at the time. Also bought Pro version of Car Scanner application (for Android), for around $3-4. Not sure about exact amount since was paid in local currency (Serbian RSD). So far, combination is working quite good with my MY2016 XC60 D4 VEA. BR P.S. I used information from CarScanner web site to decide which OBD adapter to buy: https://www.carscanner.info/ Last edited by rafikield; May 6th, 2020 at 13:58. |

Yes, looks like the same Viecar device. I got mine on eBay, but it works fine. Also, the Car Scanner app is the same, but mine is iOS and £6.99 for the pro version. I’m happy that it’s a bargain and worth the cash. It’s so cheap, but great functions and good for the money.

I use the free version of Car Scanner for Android (with an OBD2 adaptor that cost around £3). As well as the DPF content it also reads the engine oil level sensor in mm. Needs to be configured for the VEA

Yes, I set the dashboard to DPF soot level and battery state of charge. Went for a drive and watched both soot and SoC increase. Then at just past 25g soot, it started to drop rapidly on the graph until it reached 5g, then stopped.
