Lightbulb Load Area Cover in 7 Seat Configuration

The lack of a cover when all the seats are up on my XC90 was annoying me so I thought I'd have a go at making my own.

After a bit of trial and error I can up with this https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0b5idkMwlX1SN

Materials used were:
  • 2No. 5mm carbon fibre rods
  • 4No. Rubber caps (from kite specialist)
  • 2No. small pieces of velcro
  • 5mm Matt Black Foam Pvc Sheet
  • TESA fabric tape
  • Self Adhesive Black felt

The carbon fibre rods and end caps give a friction fit into the groves the normal cover runs in. They are quite rigid and provide support to the PVC foam.

The PVC foam was marked out using the normal cover as a template. It cuts very easily. I mitred it to give the same profile as the normal cover. The mitre was glued using Araldite.

The front edge is held onto the front carbon fibre rod creating a recess with 2 pieces of the spare foam glued to the underside of the cover. The back edge is 'fixed' round the rear carbon fibre rod with the Velcro that sticks to the TESA fabric tap.

The whole thing was covered with the self adhesive black felt.

Overall, it's easy to put in and out and very light and so far rattle free.

Looks great , I’ve got tinted windows, fat chance of anyone seeing anything with the 7 seats up . Even at that I would throw travel blanket over the stuff.

Nice project.
I just fold up the carpet over whatever is behind the seats.

I bought a spare load cover and intend to butcher it.
Just not got round to it yet.

My best tip for you to solve this problem is this:

Buy an 'Ultra soft to the touch' Black Waffle Throw from Wilko (200 x 240) to cover all of the stuff in the back of your car. Currently reduced from £16.00 to £8.00 with Home Delivery at £5.00 (before 15 June).

Look through the windows into the vehicle and nobody can see a thing!

Check it out at https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-bl...40cm/p/0456457

Looks like Volvo missed a trick here. I'm guessing you have the newer XC90. My 14 plate XC90 R Design had the load cover that you could lift back into a different set of location lugs when in 7 seat mode, therefore covering what was left of the boot space.

Yes, there is no potential to do this on the SPA model.
