Dutchy, I think you shoud sell that V40 and buy one that doesn't vibrate, knock, squeek, rattle or scratch
![]() It could be the aux belt itself? How old or how many miles are on the belt? I have a scratching noise coming from my cam/timing belt cover. When I apply pressure to the rear of the cover the noise stops. Must of upset the alignment of it when I had the top engine cover and brackets off. And could also be as Stevo48 said...

i have this noise also, it happens after engine is warmed up a little on mine, does sound as if its coming from black cover by alternator and belts etc,, i was wonfering what this is as im a new volvo owner and if it can cause damage? car seems to be running ok though, but id rather fix the noise
