Update:
Tried to unscrew the nut that holds the diesel hard line in the engine, there was not any high preasure there. Even if i tried to start the car for 30 sec+ So the car does not get diesel, that could be due to the ECU not wanting to start the car, but I can't read fault codes yet.. Another funny thing: Fresh thick oil from the intercooler to the air intake manifoil (next to the EGR valve).. have a feeling that is not a good thing What can be the reason for that? |

Did you check the pick-up in the fuel tank?
And when was the fuel filter last changed?

First of all, don't play around with the injection system, just check there is fuel in the tank, then change the fuel filter AND the 2 O rings (Lid & drain plug) that should be with a Gen Volvo or Bosch fuel filter. Pump the bulb next to the filter housing until it has a solid feel, then try a start after charging or jumping the battery.
If that fails, find a good independent Volvo garage (Or visit your bank and go to a Volvo stealer) and ask for the hidden fault codes to be read. Get a copy and post here. It will probably save you are lot of time and trouble IF you can't find a fellow forum member with a phase 2 code reader. The option is a series of wild guesses about ECU, turbo, block or injection system faults that might stop the engine starting. Some oily type deposits in the intake, intercooler or turbo hoses are normal. Was this diesel burning any oil or smoking ??

I think it has to be said that you are going to have to get the fault codes read with a professional snap-on type tool or volvo specific reader.
It costs about £40 a go from my local garage although the useless twazocks only read and reset the airbag code and then refused to reconnect the machine and read me any engine codes. Good job they haven't charged me for it as I'd be back down there for the full code read. As it is, apart from poor fuel economy I don't have any other faults apparent.

Umm, we all have our faults! So Bob, how about outing the Twazocks who can't read ?? Name and shame, or we will all think you went to some Indy Iffy shop that had the wrong code reader. You were lucky not to get charged, or did you run off and cancel the credit card ??

Bought another diagnostic tool, this time specific for Volvo. But again: "link failed" in the display
Tried to spray the connector with a "contact cleaner" and air - but with the same result. Also have checked all fuses and none are broken :/ |

Have booked an appointment with a mechanic shop.. :/
The tool costs £110 and are designed for newer Volvos, so that's a bummer! |

search ebay for Volvo vida dice, works with a v40. In fact you just missed one for £50 in the for sale section on this site.

When a cold 1.9D does not start, the normal routine is to check it is turning over fast enough, which often involves using a jump start. The next subject is fuel supply. That means check the tank contents, fuel filter, seals and prime as per the owners handbook with the priming bulb. If that fails, then it's error code time, as no codes will show for fuel supply issues until after the injection pump.
