Steering vibration on full lock
Dear all. Originally noticed we had a slight steering vibration on full lock. However this now appears to be getting more pronounced and is now present when not quite full lock is being applied. I know some cars do this and therefore didn’t think too much of it but now wandering if we have a problem ?

Yes I've noticed this too in the last few weeks. I wasn't aware that it's a known thing, was going to get my dealer to look at it when I get the nod that the tailgate struts are available under the recall.
It's more of a 'ticking' than a vibration, frequency of the 'ticks' is linked to speed, and it's more noticeable when turning right. I can rarely detect it turning left.

I noticed it on both the XC60 and XC90 didn't give it much thought to be honest as its only on full lock.

This can be an issue on some four wheel drives, I haven't noticed anything on my XC60 as yet but the previous Merc GLC suffered from a disconcerting jar on full lock particularily when the temperature was lower than around 10* Smooth wet surfaces such as multi-story car parks were the worst, on full lock the front wheels would seem to skip to the side particularily turning right. On tarmac surfaces the effect was more of vibration. Merc described it as a characteristic (didn't seem to occur on left hand drive cars though)

Quote:
The Volvo issue here sounds more like noisy front driveshaft constant velocity joints.

My V90 is going into the garage this week as it has a grinding and knocking noise only when turning left.
Sounds like a driveshaft as have had it previously on another car. also going in for a brake check as it surges when slowing down either from gearbox or brakes grabbing.

My V90 definately has a pulsing sensation through the steering when on full lock. It does not seem to have changed during the 9 months or so I've owned it. I was thinking I'd just see how it goes and worry about it if it gets worse. Interested to see how common it is, or isn't.

Yep my 2WD V90 does this also, seems like a "feature". Not bothered.
