Roy, the fuel pod 2 has got to be one of the biggest examples of using advertising to make people think they are getting something great, when in fact they aren't!!!

It is a load of rubbish, I doubt it will catch on in a big way, it means you'll have to get of your backside and find the oil, titrate, mixe the methoxide, buy and store Methanol, caustis soda, get rid of the Glycerol, do 3/ 27 tests.

No mention of all that in the ads!!

I reckon by the time I am up and running, I'll have spent £250 on a Bio Processor and WVO filtration system that will produce at least 100l a batch....

Yes other people have commented it's a lot cheaper to make your own equipment as well. I think it's the one tank on wheels with a fuel pump filler for your car that makes it look good. Far to expensive in my opinion though.

It dosn't use caustic soda though......

Quote:
Green Fuels recommends the use of liquid methylates rather than dry caustic soda, to avoid exothermic reaction. The fuel quality is also improved, as there is no chance of un-dissolved caustic getting into the reaction. Ion exchange resin is used to purify the fuel in a contained system using very small quantities of consumables.
I'll still be using the stuff made from natural gas at £1.14 a liter....at least untill I see your engine can do 200,000 miles on the vegi stuff OK. ;-)

I won't be using caustic soda either - in fact I don't know anyone who does... Methoxide is a liquid mix of Methanol & Lye... The Caustic thing was from a quote - not of mine)

See you in 200k

I'm a bit behind the times with biodiesel Mike. I didn't realise that Methoxide was the norm nowdays.

I always seemd to buy cars with engines that were unsuitable for the stuff. Every other car engine of the models I chose could run on the stuff OK except mine!!! In the end I just gave up on it. Plus I couldn't buy the stuff from anyone and I didn't want to make it as it looked too messy and space consuming.

Yep Methoxide - for a good reaction and quality fuel - I will have no reservations using it once I am certain I am producing top quality fuel - I reckon TBH that it will be at least as good, if not better than supermarket stuff!

Thought I would post an update on this...

Been running the XC90 and my van on Bio for approx 6 months now, have covered about 15k miles in the two....

And saved about £2k on fuel......

Craig - No idea where you are getting your chemicals from, but I buy Methanol @ 39p/L in 205L quantity (enough for 1000L of Bio) and NAOH @ £12 for 25kg - again enough for about 700L

My cost, incl electricity is approx 13 or 14p per Litre of finished Bio...

Simon, no probs - you can get me via email or MSN on mike@kitchendream.co.uk

Managed to bag myself 4000L of very lightly used, settled and filtered veg oil today, for the grand sum of £nil!!!!

At this rate I'll end up with a stock!!
