Default Chattering rear brakes S40 2008

I recently had the Brake pads changed all round and have noticed a rattle/chatter coming from the rears on all but the smoothest roads.I thought it was brake pad clips or something like that.My Garage took the wheels off and had a good look only to say there was nothing wrong, everything was in place. The rattle stops each time i brake.
Anyone know what else it could be ?... Thanks.

Had this problem myself, fixed by getting genuine Volvo brake pads and applying the handbrake correctly from then on (pressing down footbrake when applying the hand brake).

+1 for the above. I had the same on the rear of my old S40 with aftermarket pads. OEM Volvo pads solved the rattle.

I've had this exact same fault previously where the friction material detached from the backing plate with aftermarket (mintex) pads. Visually everything looked OK but it rattled away and only stoped when braking. Decided to remove the pads for inspection and they fell into two halves!

On S40 is the same as V50? I have changed all pads front and rear with ATE and no problems so far. The old ones were ATE with volvo mark on them.I got the ones below:
Rear brake pad set ATE 13.0460-7195.2
Front brake pad set ATE 13.0460-7193.2

Yes same brake setup as the S40, although front brakes differ quite a bit depending on engine / year etc..
