Grabbed this from somewhere else.
I have this list of final drive ratios for the 740/760 with automatics from 1982 to 1987. I hope this list is correct but I wouldn't know if it is!

Someone else suggested making a list a while ago and nothing happened, come on it doesn't take much to post the details !

My spares car is a '91 940 GLE saloon with B230FB and M47 - and that has the 1041 3.54 diff.

Never checked what my B230E 740 was.

Keep meaning to check what the new bus is - '90 760 GLE estate with D24TIC and ZF22.

Transmission/Final drive: M90/3.31/3.54 - AW71/L/3.73
Remarks: Nearly all markets. High numerical gear ratio on final drive 945 and in a number of markets also 944. Has vacuum EVAP but not EGR or pulsedsecondary air injection system (PAIR) pump. Certain Overseas markets do not have lock-up on AW71.
There's still a choice of 2 diffs fitted with the manual box. If we can narrow it down a bit more it would be great. If we knew exact model, gle,se etc and either saloon or estate it would make finding the right axle much easier, well hopefully anyway.

This could be really useful thread. I will post more on it, but I need to check three cars that are 2 off road and 1 not here.

The other way round is to check the mph/1000rpm in top and you can work back if you know the gearbox ratios.

I did make a spreadsheet for that but I think it is not possible to attach a spreadsheet.

Lots of work to do it backwards as there are such a lot of different engine and gearbox combinations plus you will need accurate tyre circumference figures as well I think.
I was thinking the list info would be useful as you wouldn't need to get too involved checking loads of things to work out whats what.

Info from 1996 940 owners Manual

Axle Ratios are dependant on box, Diesel has a special ZF auto box, B230FK has a special manual box.

Autos:
ZF (Diesel only) 3.73:1
AW(B230FK also known as LPT) 3.71:1
AW (by implication all other variants) 4.10:1

Manual
M90 (B230FK) 3.31:1
M90 (by implication all other variants) 3.54

Engine variants listed B230FK (135hp), GK (leaded/unleaded, 135hp), FT (165hp), GT (leaded/unleaded, 135hp), B200FT (leaded/unleaded, 155hp), B200GT (155hp), D24TIC (Diesel, 122hp, 240 Nm)

I will let you do the table.

Info from the 1997 Owner's manual:

Engine variants: B230FK, B230GK(no cat), B200FT, B200GT

It looks like the B230FK was the only engine specified for the UK market in 1997.

Gearbox/final drive ratio:

AW70/71 - 3.73:1

M90 - 3.31:1 (4 door model)
M90 - 3.54:1 (5 door model)

I've got a 940 CD auto, with a B230FT engine. And yes, according to the owners manual that engine doesn't exist.

The chap I bought it from said it's got the limited slip diff. How do I identify it?
