I've been increasingly wanting and wanting a 700/900 for quite a while - partly for the load space for camping hols but partly also so that you can sit comfortably on the back with the tailgate open and eat sandwiches in the rain... which is just possible but a bit rubbish and uncomfortable in a V40 (sorry Genevieve), and ultimately longed for a (pre-facelift) 745 above all for those distinctive (Marmite) looks.

My problem has always been one of justifying the purchase - after all it's strictly unnecessary and a set of extra costs that I could well do without. But I thought I had been being quite good lately (and it was my birthday!) so I thought I might be allowed a cheap one, if I checked it carefully and it looked sound. Et voilà. My boys like it too, so with any luck all is well.
Post 6 reminded me of you!

Good table too, and a decent-looking picnic. I have been reading my 1988 Volvo Traveller's Guide, which has a section on picnics and suggests "going 'bananas' and preparing a real open air feast": the menu proposed is crab mousse, followed by a cold roast pork or beef joint with lettuce, new potatoes in mayonnaise, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, and crusty brown bread and butter, with melon and raspberries sprinkled with Kirsch for dessert.

But before all that I have to do the headlining....

if your going to recover the headlining yourself, there are some Very good spray on contact glues about,
DO not use em inside,, spray it outside, stick the cloth liner on,, then pop it somewhere Well venitlated and out of any possible rain to set.

if possible pick a fabric with a built in foam liner , for that plush feel, should anyones feet/heels end up on it while in the car...

maybe suitable, but youd need to add the foam liner yourself (stick that first, stick the cloth ontop)

Smile head lineing

Back in 2000 i noticed that my headlineing was drooping so i searched and found a guy who done car upholstry he quoted me 300 to redo a good price for a complete new one, dureing winter months the car is completely covered but because of the bitterly cold weather the lineing sags but when it gets warmer it tends to reset itself if it does get bad again i would rather pay someone to put it right..sunnyvic

It's becoming a matter of pride, as well as money. I think I have to have a go at doing it myself... if it's a complete disaster we can think again. I like that pink leopard stuff.

I am thinking zebra though (pink would clash with the rest of the colour scheme). It'll match my stilettos (which I keep in the centre console bin when driving, obviously).

Talking headlining fun

Now, this may not be to everyone's taste, so please don't all shoot me down and say Why have you ruined a perfectly decent car? Here goes anyway...

So I confess that I was holding a little bit of information back yesterday, namely that I had already begun the job...

Anyway I actually quite liked this look (and it would have saved some work):

But in the end I pressed on....

... and ended up with THIS (!)

(And yes I KNOW I still have to refit the central light. It's a triumph in itself that I remembered to feed the wires through the hole.)
