I saw one in the showroom yesterday and I didn't realise at first as it looked so big I thought it was an XC60. It has way more room inside than the V40. Loads of head hight and loads of leg room even in the rear. Bigger boot and a very nice cabin. Feels like a different class to my "old" V40. I can see a lot of XC60 owners buying it.

Agree with that, it's definitely a more premium car than the V40.

For example, the lower door cards on the V40 are hard plastic, whereas on the XC40 they are squishy and lined with felt.

It has more head height but I don't think the interior has much more space than a V40. As for premium feel, well that depends on whether the V40 in question is high spec or not. I think the orange interior looks awful on the XC40s I have seen. They are clearly aiming at a younger set with this car, which seems odd as most people in that age group wouldn't be able to afford one.

Have you actually sat in one front and back?

You'd think that - but most kids these days have cars on finance don't they. So they probably will sell quite a few.

Plenty of kids drive Minis - and we all know they're not cheap.

I was at my main dealer today for the service and MOT. I sat in their XC40 again and still don't think it is much bigger than the V40 inside. In fact looking again I see my head is about as close to the roof as in the V40, but the seat could probably have gone down a bit. Definitely not worth the money IMO.

Saw and sat in an XC40 at a Volvo event back in December and TBH wasn't too impressed. I agree - not much bigger than the V40 inside; it may SEEM that there's more room as the insides of the doors are different.

We REALLY wanted to like the XC40 and it does look better in the metal than in the renders and we liked the XC90/XC60 technology but the interior, for us, let it down somewhat. Having said that we are probably not Volvo's demographic for this car and I have no doubt they will sell lots of them.

FWIW we bought an XC60 a while later and are really pleased with it.

I have a V40 Cross Country and there is about 5 inches less headroom than the XC40. My family do not have to sit with their heads bent at an angle like they do in the V40 either. (they are all over 6')
