Here's a couple of pics from the for sale ad:

Its amazing how cheap these can be picked up for, especially the saloons.

Looks like you have a nice car there. How much did you pay for it?

I've always liked the plain velour trim so often seen in the mid-1980s GLE and GLT, as it's far easier on the eye than the pinstriped material found in models lower down the range

This is The Breadbox. 1989 740 GL (2.3, the only way they come in the US.) Paid $3600 in 2001 with 168,000 miles on the clock. Currently at 293,000. With my 70 mile daily commute, I should break 300,000 by the end of summer. Originally owned by a real estate agent in Jacksonville, Florida. Then somehow made it to Virginia; then with two owners in Pennsylvania. Converted from AW-41 to M47 in 2007. ipd springs and sways added in 2009. Glass sunroof installed in 2010.

BB in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia.

BB in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

The most recent photo, halfway through installing M47 number two

Interior shot. BB now has a much nicer interior than she used to. I got seats, carpets and all the plastic trim around the headliner for $150 from an '87 760 GLE that had been scrapped because the engine seized.

mine from last summer.

Currently have a whole load of work done to it in our garage so should see the road again early next year with a lot of clean up and other bit and pieces done now. I thinking I am going the other way to you all on this - brought the car for £350 and spent roughly £5500 so far on it with another £2500+ this winter. I need to stop spending money on it. lol

I gave £350 for it and I have seen them alot cheaper. I was happy with that for a fairly clean car, 97k and a full years MOT (passed last week).

It looks like I am going to have to sort a few niggles and spend a couple of quid but I didn't expect it to be perfect for that money.

The velour trim is not the option I would have picked from new but beggars cant be choosers and its worn well for its 23 years. Its Green too but again, so what.

Bit of a bargain, that

Silver grey or blue velour would have looked much better, but the condition of the seats more than makes up for their verdant hue. At least they aren't that vampish red that Volvo decked out some 740s with back in the day

Here's my 740 Turbo on the day i moved it to its new house and garage where its living now, its currently in millions of pieces whilst i rebuild it bigger, better, blacker and so much more badass than it left the factory.

Couple more weeks work and it'll be running again and i may just post more pics of it up, couldnt get it finished in time to attend the BKV, to many snags to address in too little time.

Oh and is it just me, but when i see another 740 saloon on the road, i often think to myself, what an ugly looking car, then i slap myself and say dont say that, you have one that you've spent silly amounts of money on.

Don't think i'd ever sell mine unless some rich person threw lots of cash at me that i couldnt refuse.
